CO2 emissions from fuel combustion APAC 1990-2022, by subregion
In 2022, approximately 17.3 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) were emitted across Asian countries, marking the largest emissions volume in the surveyed period. Two years prior, in 2020, CO2 emissions in Asia had decreased for the first time in the past 30 years. China was by far the biggest CO2 emitter in the APAC region, emitting about 10.6 billion metric tons in 2022. Contrasting the consistent upward trend across Asia, CO2 emissions in the Pacific countries were more volatile, having been on a downward trend for the past two years.
